O'Grady's father was Jim O'Grady. Her mother, Jan, was a financial planner. She grew up in Wheaton, Illinois, and graduated from Wheaton North High School in the year 1981. Prior to making the move from Illinois to Los Angeles, she appeared in a variety of commercials.
